Places to Eat
There are plenty of places to eat in the Truckee area, but here are a few of our favorites. Check the restaurant link to make sure they are open.

Children are welcome in all restaurants, but some places are just naturally more kid friendly. Having raised two boys, I know that a place needs to have three things for me to enjoy my meal. The restaurant needs to be fast, have a large selection of rather "plain" dishes, and it needs to loud. So, those establishments that meet all three of these criteria get my KIDS endorsement. If it the place has two of my three criteria, I will list a KIDS note.

We like these places MORE (in order of distance from the house):
Fine Dining
The Lodge at Tahoe Donner has really good food, very small menu but inside Tahoe Donner. Kid note: not a lot plain dishes.
Pianeta Ristorante offers a good selection of Italian and mediterranean dishes.
Pacific Crest Grill offers fresh California cuisine.
• Comfortable fine dinning best describes Cottonwood. They have really good food, and a great view from the deck. You can take your time. Inside can be a touch loud and warm, but we still really like this place.
• An absolutely wonderful meal can be found at Stella, located at the Cedar House hotel. Delicious food, very romantic, small setting, and impeccable service. Please leave the young kids at home. Reservations are a must.

Casual Dining
Z's-Marketplace at Tahoe Donner has a wonderful sandwich counter. The portions are large, made to order, and fresh. It's a small market with most of the essentials. It will save you a trip to Safeway.
• I guess Truckee didn't get the word about the internet--here's another wonderful place without a site. Wild Cherries Coffee House open all day has wonderful wraps, bagels, sandwiches, and fresh coffee. Great place to get a box lunch for the days activity. KIDS
• If you are looking for something to go, Joe at Nic and Willies will set you up with an awesome pie. You take it home raw, and cook it in the oven. Please put foil down on the lower rack.
• If you like burgers, this is a must try. Burger Me! has serious burgers, and was featured on Food Network. KIDS
li is an institution. Great food. But they don't have a website. KIDS
• One of the best places in town for omelets is Squeeze Inn. Open for breakfast and lunch, featured on Food Network, is an experience. Great food. KIDS note: good for kids once you get a table.

Dragon Fly is a different and fun spin on Asian.
Moody's Bistro & Lounge, it's just different. Good food and music.

Casual Dining
Pizza on the Hill at Tahoe Donner, it's close, fast, and good. KIDS
• If you are looking for traditional BBQ look at Smokey's Kitchen,. Good food, not great. Take the kids. Sharks game on TV. KIDS
Zano's Family Italian is the place to take the kids--the place is always loud. Large portions. It can be long wait for a table. They have a great to go menu featuring family style dishes. KIDS
Best Pies Pizza, let's just say it's not the best. Located in old town, if you have kids in tow, like super thin crust and basic toppings, then stop in. KIDS
Jax at the Tracks featured on Food Network, they put a spin of traditional favorites. KIDS
• More of a traditional pizzeria, the Village Pizzeria offers good food. KIDS note: service can be slow.
